Roger B. Taney (1777-1864), fifth Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1836 through 1864 was appointed by Andrew Jackson. He wrote the majority opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857) case, which ruled African Americans were unfit to associate with the white race and could not be considered citizens of the United States.
