Artist's Description

African American mortar company of the 92nd Division in combat near Massa, Italy in Nov. 1944. In the spring of 1944, the U.S. government rescinded its policy excluding African-American soldiers from combat. This company of Buffalo soldiers was credited with liquidating several German machine gun nests. Nov. 1944, during World War 2. (BSLOC_2013_14_233)
