Dr. John H. Holliday (1851-1887) was an American dentist, gambler and gunfighter fought with Wyatt Earp in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Portrait photograph, made by C.S. Fly in Tombstone, 1881.

This is a very popular picture said to be "Doc" Holliday. It ain't. There are two verifiable photos of him and this one resembles neither. To give you a first hint: "Doc's" hair was blonde. The photo above continues to fall apart from there. However, this is no the only picture said to be of "Doc". There is one that appears in several books and magazines and even in Time-Life "Old West". It resembles this picture in that the features are similar; dark, thick whiskers, etc. The trouble with this second one is that it is of John Escapule, who came to Tombstone in the 1880's, I believe. He has descendants that still live in the area. There is record of a man who had Escapule's portrait tatooed on his arm with the quote, "I'm your huckleberry". Both portraits are shown in the book by a family member called something like,"Doc Holliday, A Family Portrait"
