Artist's Description

Francis Scott Key, (1779-1843) awakes on September 14, 1814, to see the American flag still waving over Fort McHenry. Inspired, Key wrote a poem entitled, “Defense of Fort M'Henry.” The poem was set to an English drinking song, and was became the US national anthem in 1931.
